UPDATE: LISTEN – The Reel Report with Ria Renouf – Friday, October 2nd 2015

Ah, a newer, fresher box office – and I couldn’t be happier!

Great segment today with Jon McComb on CKNW!

The summer box office is long gone; pretty much everything that came out in August is out from the top five.

Maze Runner: the Scorch Trials and Everest are towards the end of the box office top five, while gangster movie Black Mass is number three. The Intern and Hotel Transylvania 2 are at the top!

What a bounty of movies this week, too. I gave it a sort of ‘walking’ theme. Kicking things off, Emily Blunt walks us through dealing with the drug cartels in Juarez, Mexico with Sicario.  I had the good fortune of seeing this movie at an advanced screening, and it was amazing. You can read my review here.

Also out today: take a walk on Mars with Matt Damon in The Martian, who gets left behind after a storm on the Red Planet. NASA and his crew mates have to figure out how to save them.

And we take a walk on a tightrope with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays Philippe Petit in the appropriately named The Walk. The movie explores everything Petit had to do to carry out his walk between the World Trade Centre towers in 1974.

Also out: Macbeth (Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard) and Freeheld (Julianne Moore, Ellen Page).

It’s a trailer that also had people confused, but now that there are a few more options out for The Revenant, (Leonardo Di Caprio, Tom Hardy), the movie is making a bit more sense.

Out on Bluray and DVD this week in home releases: Avengers: the Age of Ultron. Next week – mark your calendars, ladies – Magic Mike XXL (Channing Tatum) and Insidious: Chapter 3.

My Flashback Friday recommendation is only out on DVD, but it’s a step up from VHS: Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown! (And Don’t Come Back!) is now available for your home viewing pleasure.

Until next week, keep it reel! And if you missed the segment, then check it out below.

Cheers,
Ria
