LISTEN – THE REEL REPORT WITH RIA RENOUF – JANUARY 22 2016

The Revenant holds on to number one at the box office. Meanwhile, I give my two cents on The 5th Wave and Ip Man 3, and Hail Caesar is the talk of the town with its lights, camera, abduction tagline…and all-star cast.

Winners and Losers at the Box Office:

At the box office, there’s not much change from last week – and the box office was pretty slow overall.

Leonardo DiCaprio and his performance in The Revenant is still number one, with $160 million dollars at the box office worldwide. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is number two. Worldwide, The Force Awakens has made $1.8 billion dollars.

While Ride Along 2 – the sequel to Ride Along – has been mostly panned by critics, it’s managed to snag a seat in the number three spot for this week.

At number four, Michael Bay’s war movie 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, which I’ve actually reviewed.  Cut to the chase: I wasn’t too fond of it.

Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg-Will Ferrell effort Daddy’s Home is starting to slide out of the top five, but is sitting at number five.

Out in Theatres This Week:

We’ve got The 5th Wave, which stars Chloe Grace Moretz. I’ve done a review on that here.  Also out, The Boy with Lauren Cohan from The Walking Dead, and Dirty Grandpa with Robert de Niro and Zac Efron. In limited release, Ip Man 3 with Donnie Yen – Donnie is actually going to be in the new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie. If you’re interested in seeing Ip Man 3, and you’re based in Metro Vancouver, I’ve got all the information in my review, which you can find here.

Trailers that Have People Talking:

It’s all about Hail, Caesar! on Twitter this week. It’s been getting so much attention with the cast: Scarlett Johansson, Jonah Hill, George Clooney…the list goes on and on! Check out the trailer below. The movie is slated for a February 5th release.

New Release Highlights:

Earlier this week, we had Straight Outta Compton, Everest and The Intern. This Tuesday, we’ll have Goosebumps, which stars Jack Black. I recommend this movie – and you can take a look at my review for Goosebumps here.

Take a listen to this week’s episode below!
