On this edition: animals still rule the box office roost, and a snapshot of a somewhat quiet box office weekend.
BOX OFFICE WINNERS AND LOSERS
Zootopia is still number one, having made close to half a billion dollars worldwide since its release two weeks ago. At number two it’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, the “spiritual successor” to Cloverfield. Deadpool is holding steady at number three in North America, but number one worldwide. Gerard Butler’s second movie this year, London Has Fallen, is number four, and Tina Fey’s more serious film fare, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is holding steady at number five.
OUT IN THEATRES
We’ve got The Divergent Series: Allegiant, which, in a preliminary outlook, seems to be falling prey to an overstaying of its welcome.
Also out: Miracles from Heaven, which is Jennifer Garner’s first performance since her split from Ben Affleck.
In limited release, The Bronze, with funny girl Melissa Rauch.
TRAILERS THAT HAVE PEOPLE TALKING
Starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Ruston, the remake of the 1929 and 1959 classics Ben Hur follows the journey of a Hebrew prince, who survives years of slavery. He then attempts to take vengeance on his adopted brother, who had turned him in for treason. It’s out August 12th.
Another trailer also dropped for The Legend of Tarzan. The more I see of this, the more excited I get for the movie! This one is out July 1st.
Finally – another X-Men: Apocalypse trailer. It doesn’t really have much in terms of new footage, but it’s another way to amp up the viewer for the may 27th release.
